The Experience

When I saw that this bed arrived in a single box, I had two thoughts: “Wow, impressive” and “This should be fun.”

But once I got it open, the super-organized packaging made everything feel totally manageable.

All the parts were wrapped in plastic and cushioned by foam, and the hardware came in a clearly labeled blister pack. This was a huge plus, especially when facing 16 assembly steps.

The assembly process was pretty logical, starting with the base and moving on to the wingback and headboard. It definitely took a couple of hours, but the illustrated manual was clear enough to keep me on track.

The real magic happens when you attach the gas lift mechanism.

The first time you lift the platform, the hydraulic pistons catch the weight and hold the frame open effortlessly.

Suddenly, this sleek, modern bed turns into a massive under-bed storage vault. You can hide away an entire season’s worth of clothes, extra bedding, or whatever else you’ve been cramming into your closets.

Who’s the Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed for?

  • If you’re living in a smaller space and desperately need more storage without giving up floor space.

This bed is your all-in-one solution, replacing the need for a dresser, storage bins, and other organizers. The platform lifts up easily (thanks to gas pistons!) to reveal a massive storage space underneath. It runs the entire length and width of the bed, with no annoying slats or dividers, so you can fit just about anything you want in there.

  • If you want a bed that makes a bold design statement the moment you walk into the room.

The tall 44.5-inch wingback headboard will be the star of any bedroom. You can pick between a modern, channel-tufted style or a classic, button-tufted design. Either way, the upholstered finish and impressive height will give your room that luxurious hotel-suite feel, making the whole space feel more thoughtfully designed and upscale.

  • If you’re looking to If you want a luxurious, upholstered look without the upscale price tag. a special vibe that’s perfect for movie nights.

This bed gives you a high-end look without the boutique furniture price tag. The soft fabric, wingback design, and clean lines all look super premium. And since even the king size comes in under $400, it’s a value that’s tough to beat.

  • If you’re tired of wrestling with a box spring every time you want to rotate your mattress or access under-bed storage.

Forget the box spring—you won’t need one. Solid wood slats are built directly into the lift-up platform frame, so your mattress can sit right on top. Plus, the pull strap at the foot of the bed makes it super easy to access everything underneath. It takes about two seconds and won’t strain your back.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Massive, accessible storage – The hydraulic lift mechanism gives you access to the entire area under the bed for storage—it’s one of the biggest under-bed storage spaces you’ll find at this price. Customer reviews consistently rave about how much you can store under there.
  • Beautiful wingback headboard — two styles to choose from – Whether you love the modern, channel-tufted panel look or prefer a classic, button-tufted style, either option will make a statement and elevate your bedroom’s look.
  • No box spring needed – The solid wood slat platform eliminates the need for a box spring entirely, saving you money and simplifying your setup.
  • Outstanding value for the price – For less than $250 for a queen and under $400 for a king, this bed gives you an amazing mix of style, features, and solid construction that’s tough to find anywhere else for the price.

Cons

  • May require two people for assembly – Many customers have mentioned that while the instructions are straightforward, putting this bed together is really a two-person job, especially when it comes to the hydraulic lift. I was able to assemble it by myself (you can see how in my video below), but for the average Joe, it would be much quicker with a helping hand.
  • The lift frame can be hard to close without a mattress – Just a heads-up: the gas pistons are designed to work with the weight of a mattress on top of them. If you try to close the frame without a mattress, you’ll find it takes a lot of effort. You’ll likely need to use your full body weight to close it during testing.
  • Storage height limitation – You’ll have about 10.8 inches of clearance from the slats to the floor, which is plenty of space for most under-bed storage containers. Just keep in mind that taller items, like large suitcases, might not fit.
  • Assembly can run 2–3 hours – At 16 steps, this is a more involved assembly than a basic bed frame. If you don’t have a power drill, plan for the longer end of that time range.

Scoring the Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed with Wingback Headboard

For this section of the review, the Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed will be reviewed and given an overall score.

The scoring rules are simple!

  • There are 10 categories (see below)
  • Each category can earn up to 5 full points.
  • There will be an accumulative score out of 50 points.

Here are the 10 categories:

  1. Price
  2. Size
  3. Sturdiness
  4. Materials
  5. Features
  6. Packaging
  7. Assembly
  8. Usability
  9. Portability
  10. Safety

(1) Price

The Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed is one of the most competitively priced hydraulic lift storage beds on the market.

The price range for this bed is typically:

  • Full: ~$229.99
  • Queen: ~$239.99
  • King: ~$379.99

This bed is a steal, falling right into the budget-to-mid-range price for an upholstered platform bed. And that’s not even counting the cool extras you get: a hydraulic lift storage system, a tall wingback headboard (in two styles), five color choices, and a design that doesn’t need a box spring.

When you think about how much it would cost to buy a similar bed and separate under-bed storage, the value really speaks for itself.

Both Amazon and Walmart customers rave about the quality you get for the price, and honestly, with all these features, it’s easy to see why.

Great value for money. The design, storage options, and overall quality are impressive for the price, and it comes in three different sizes.

(2) Size

The Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed comes in three sizes, but they all share the same standout 44.5-inch headboard that will really anchor your room.

Here are the dimensions:

  • Full: 79.4″L x 57.7″W x 44.5″H
  • Queen: 84″L x 64″W x 44.5″H
  • King: 84″L x 79.7″W x 44.5″H
  • Storage Height (slats to floor): 10.8 inches
Full Size Bed
Queen Size Bed
King Size Bed

King Size Bed

A few things worth noting about these dimensions. The headboard height of 44.5 inches (just under 3 feet 9 inches) is substantial. It will be one of the first things anyone notices when they walk into the room — in a good way, of course.

The 10.8-inch storage height is generous for most under-bed storage needs. Extra bedding, clothing, shoes, and smaller accessories all fit comfortably.

However, if you’re hoping to slide in a large suitcase or tall garment bag, it’s worth measuring those items before purchasing.

“Incredible how much you can fit under the bed. Perfect for an apartment with limited space.”

Walmart customer

Tip Regarding the Size:

  • Before you buy, grab a tape measure and double-check that the bed frame will fit in your space. Online photos can be deceiving, making the wingback look just right on any wall.

But if you have lower ceilings or other tall furniture, the nearly 45-inch headboard might feel a lot bigger than you expected. So, trust your tape measure, not just the pictures

The dimensions are excellent for all three sizes. The only small downside is the 10.8″ storage height, which might be a bit snug for larger, bulkier items.

(3) Sturdiness

Once you get it set up, the Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed is a solid and well-made platform bed. It’s built with fabric, metal, and solid wood slats, a mix that makes it strong and durable where you need it most.

The bed can hold up to 800 lbs, which is pretty impressive for this type of bed and says a lot about its strength.

When you’re lifting the platform, the hydraulic system can handle up to 110 lbs for the full and queen sizes, and 136 lbs for the king. This means you don’t have to worry about straining the lifting mechanism, even with a heavy mattress on top.

The solid wood slats built into the lifting platform add a lot of extra sturdiness. Since the slats move up with the platform instead of staying attached to the frame, the whole sleeping surface works together as one solid, supportive unit.

Solid wood slats and the metal frame on the Allewie Lift Up Storage Bed

Tips For Long-Lasting Sturdiness:

  • During assembly, make sure all bolts and connection points are fully tightened — particularly the hardware connecting the hydraulic lift arms to the bed frame.
  • Finger-tighten everything to about 50% first to ensure all parts are aligned, then go back and fully tighten.
  • A power drill on the lowest torque setting makes this easier and more consistent. Loose lift-arm hardware is the most common cause of wobble or instability with this style of bed.

This bed has a great weight capacity and is solidly built. Just make sure to assemble it properly to get the most sturdiness out of it.

(4) Materials

The Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed is made from three primary materials: upholstered fabric, metal, and wood.

Frame Material

  • The bed frame is made from a mix of metal and wood. Metal parts give it the strength it needs to support both you and the hydraulic lifting system. The wooden slats on the lift platform add extra support, so you don’t even need a box spring. This metal-and-wood combination is a popular and smart way to build platform beds like this one, giving you a sturdy and affordable frame.
Metal Lift-Up Frame

Upholstery Material

  • The bed frame, headboard, and wingback panels are all wrapped in a soft upholstered fabric that comes in eight colors: Beige, Black, Blue Grey, Cream White, Dark Grey, Light Grey, Olive Yellow, and White. This fabric not only gives the bed a polished look but is also tough enough for daily wear and tear.

A quick heads-up: while the lighter colors like White, Beige, and Light Grey are stunning, they might show stains or wear more easily over time. If you’ve got pets or little ones running around, you might want to consider a darker color to keep it looking fresh for longer.

Hardware

  • Metal hardware holds everything together and runs the hydraulic lift, with gas lift pistons built to handle repeated use and the weight capacity for each bed size. All in all, the materials are a great match for this style of bed at this price.

The materials used are solid and well-chosen for the most part. Just a heads-up, the lighter-colored fabrics might stain easily. Also, the metal and wood parts don’t feel quite as high-end as a solid wood piece would.

(5) Features

The Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed has a bunch of features that make it stylish and super useful. Here are a few of our favourites:

Feature #1: Hydraulic Lift-Up Storage

What really makes this bed special is its hydraulic gas-lift mechanism. It lifts the entire mattress platform to reveal a huge storage space underneath.

Forget about those regular under-bed drawers that only give you a little bit of room.

This design opens up the whole area from headboard to footboard. With 10.8 inches of height, it’s perfect for stashing extra bedding, clothes, seasonal items, and shoes.

Feature #2: Gas Piston Support (Hands-Free Access)

The gas lift pistons hold the platform firmly open, leaving both of your hands completely free to access the storage area.

You won’t need to prop anything open or ask someone else to hold the platform up for you.

The pistons are calibrated to handle the weight of a fully loaded mattress, giving you a smooth, controlled opening and a secure hold—hands-free

Feature #3: Pull Strap at Footboard

At the foot of the bed, you’ll find a handy fabric strap attached to the lift platform.

This strap gives you a central place to grip, making it easy to raise and lower the platform.

No more awkward bending or getting your hands near the hinges! It’s designed to make accessing your storage quick, safe, and convenient enough for everyday use.

Feature #4: Mattress Retainer Bars

Mattress retainer bars are essential for keeping your mattress in place when you lift the platform.

Without them, you’d have to slide the entire mattress off just to get to your storage, which is a huge hassle.

With the retainer bars, your mattress stays exactly where it should be, so you can access everything underneath without having to touch it.

Feature #5: Two Headboard Style Options

You can get this bed with two different headboard styles: a modern, horizontal channel-tufted wingback or a classic, button-tufted one.

Both styles are a stunning 44.5 inches tall, so they’ll definitely be the centerpiece of any bedroom.

The channel-tufted style has a more contemporary, minimalist feel, while the button-tufted version offers a more classic, traditional look.

It’s a great detail for shoppers who know exactly what kind of vibe they’re going for.

Modern, channel-tuted hearboard

Feature #6: Eight Color Options

Choose from eight fabric colors:

  1. Beige
  2. Black
  3. Blue Grey
  4. Cream White
  5. Dark Grey
  6. Light Grey
  7. Olive Yellow
  8. White

Whether you’re into versatile neutrals or more expressive accent colors, there’s an option to match your bedroom and personal style.

Feature #7: No Box Spring Required

Solid wood slats are built right into the lift-up platform frame, giving your mattress all the support it needs without a box spring. This makes setup a breeze, saves you money, and gives the bed a clean, minimalist look.

This bed has some cool features like the hydraulic lift for storage, a handy pull strap, and bars to keep your mattress in place. The only small downside is the storage space is only 10.8 inches high, so you might not be able to fit really bulky things under there.

(6) Packaging

There’s a lot to unpack with the Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed!

In the unboxing section of our review video above at the 00:09 mark, you can get a closer look at all of the parts taken out of the box.

Product Packaging

Your Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed will arrive in a single box with all the parts and hardware you need.

They use a few different types of packaging to make sure everything gets to you safely:

  • Inside the box, you’ll find each furniture part individually covered in plastic wrap. This acts as the first line of defense against scratches while your order is on its way to you.
  • They place rectangular polyfoam blocks in the corners of the box to keep the metal bed frame supports from poking through the box during shipping.
  • They use rectangular styrofoam blocks wrapped in plastic to cushion the furniture and keep the parts from bumping into each other during shipping.

Hardware Packaging:

Hardware packaging can make or break an assembly experience. A good setup helps you get organized quickly and progress smoothly.

Instead of a jumbled bag of parts, this hardware comes in a clear blister-pack tray. Each bolt, washer, or nut has its own molded spot, keeping everything visible and pre-sorted with clear labels. You know exactly what you have before you even start.

I also liked that the spare hardware is packaged separately. It’s a small but thoughtful detail that makes it easy to see if you’ve missed a step.

Overall, the packaging is well-designed and practical—one of the better hardware setups I’ve seen in this category.

The packaging is great overall, and I especially liked how the hardware was organized in a labeled blister pack. A minor deduction was made for the styrofoam blocks, which can make a mess if the plastic wrap breaks during shipping.

(7) Assembly

Putting together the Allewie Lift-Up Storage Bed is a bit of a project, so don’t expect a quick 30-minute setup!

  • Assembly takes about 1.5 to 3 hours, but unboxing and organizing parts could extend this to 2 to 4 hours. A power drill will speed up the process significantly compared to the included Allen key.
  • The instruction manual is pretty clear and easy to follow, with picture illustrations that show you exactly how everything fits together.
  • If you’re a visual learner, I’ve also put together an easy-to-follow assembly video. Check it out below if you want to see how it’s done before you give it a go

**IMPORTANT** – When lowering the lift frame without a mattress, you should expect some resistance. Don’t worry, this is completely normal! Simply use your body weight to push the frame down in a controlled motion. Once your mattress is on top, the added weight will allow the frame to lower seamlessly. See the demonstration below!

Using body weight to push down on the frame with no mattress.

2 Sections of the User Manual

The manual is broken down into two easy-to-follow sections:

  1. Parts list

The parts lists for both the furniture and hardware show pictures, part numbers, and the quantity of each piece.

  2. Assembly steps

You’ll find 16 steps with close-up pictures that show you exactly how to put all the pieces and hardware together.

Assembly Tips:

  • Protect your knees – You’ll spend a lot of time kneeling on the floor, so it’s a good idea to wear knee pads or place a thick towel down for extra cushioning.
  • Start by building the lift-up metal frame first (steps 7–9) – If you are limited on space, completing this step first will clear up some floor space, making it easier to work with the larger frame pieces.
  • Read the written instructions – Don’t just rely on the pictures! The text provides important details that the illustrations might miss. Skipping the written part is a common reason for mistakes.
  • Use your power drill on its lowest torque setting – The low setting will prevent you from stripping the screws or making them too tight.
  • Finger-tighten the screws first – Before you go all out and fully tighten the bolts connecting the main parts, just tighten them about halfway first. This way, you can still wiggle things around for any last-minute adjustments before locking it all down.
  • Use your body weight to lower the lift frame – The gas pistons will be very resistant to closing without a mattress installed. Don’t try to force it closed with just your arms. Instead, use your full body weight to press down steadily from the center of the platform.

The instructions are clear and have great illustrations, breaking the process down into 16 logical steps. However, most will need two people and a good amount of time to get it all done, so it’s not what I’d call an “easy” setup. Just make sure you plan ahead and set aside enough time, and you’ll find the process is pretty straightforward and rewarding.

(8) Usability

You’ll use three parts of this bed regularly, and they’re all intuitive and work just as you’d expect.

Lift-Up Mechanism

  • Makes the storage compartment easy to access
  • Allows hands-free access to storage
  • Provides controlled, smooth closing

Accessing the storage compartment is a breeze thanks to the gas lift mechanism. Just give the pull strap at the foot of the bed a gentle pull, and the gas pistons will do the rest, holding the platform open for you. This leaves both hands free to store or grab whatever you need from the space underneath.

Pull Strap

  • Provides a handy spot right in the center for lifting.
  • Helps you open and close the bed with less effort.
  • Improves control and keeps hands clear of hinge points

Lift the storage platform with ease using the fabric pull strap at the foot of the bed. This handy strap makes it much easier to access your under-bed storage and also keeps your hands safely away from the hinges.

Mattress Retainer Bars

  • Keeps the mattress in place when the bed is lifted
  • Allows you to lift the platform without adjusting the mattress
  • Makes accessing storage more convenient and consistent

The mattress retainer bars are a simple but clever feature. They keep the mattress in place when you lift the bed, so you won’t have to straighten everything every time you grab something from storage. This makes using the storage easy and practical—just lift the platform, get what you need, and lower it.

The hydraulic lift, pull strap, and mattress retainer bars all work together seamlessly to create a user-friendly system. The only minor issue I found was some resistance when closing the platform without a mattress on it—you’ll need to use a bit of body weight to get it shut.

(9) Portability

You can rearrange this bed on your own, but it’s much easier with two people because the frame is quite large and heavy once assembled.

Have hardwood or marble floors?

Just pop some furniture pads under the metal feet. This will let you slide the bed around without scratching your floors, making it pretty easy to reposition with a partner.

Have carpet or rugs?

Sliding the bed will be a bit more difficult. The best way to move it is with a friend—one person can push while the other guides. Or, you can lift and move it a little bit at a time.

Moving to a new room or home?

You’ll need to take the bed apart slightly. It’s too big and heavy to move in one piece.

Disassembly Tips

If you need to partially disassemble the bed, follow these steps:

  • First, remove the 6 screws holding the metal lift-up frame to the lift hinges.
  • Then, take out the bolts that connect the side rails to the headboard and footboard.

Once you’ve taken it apart, you’ll have five pieces to move:

  1. (1x) headboard
  2. (1x) footboard
  3. (1x) let side rail
  4. (1x) right side rail
  5. (1x) metal lift-up frame

While moving the bed isn’t a one-person job, taking it apart is pretty straightforward when you need to.

Like most large upholstered bed frames, this one isn’t the easiest to move around. While you can shift it around a room with a friend, moving it to a new place will mean taking it apart and needing a few extra hands.

(10) Safety

When I put the bed together and tested it out, I noticed a few smart design features that make it safer than other lift-up storage beds.

No Sharp Corners

Soft upholstery wraps around the entire headboard, wingback panels, and frame, so you don’t have to worry about bumping into any hard corners. This is a big plus, especially if you have little ones who aren’t always careful around furniture.

No Risk of the Frame Dropping

The gas lift pistons keep the mattress held up securely, so you don’t have to worry about it dropping while you’re grabbing things from the storage compartment.

No Finger Pinch Points at the Access Point

You can raise and lower the platform using the fabric pull strap, which means you won’t have to put your hands near the lift frame or footboard. This smart design helps prevent your fingers from getting pinched when you’re accessing your storage.

Potential Safety Considerations

While the bed has some great safety features, there are a few things to keep in mind with any lift-up storage bed.

  • Pinch Points Around Hinges

Watch your fingers! The metal arms and hinges can pinch your fingers if you get them too close while the lift is moving. So to avoid getting your fingers caught, keep your hands clear of the metal lifting arms and hinges when opening or closing the lift.

Safety Tip: Teach your kids (if you have them) to stand at the footboard and only use the pull strap when opening or closing the lift platform. Make sure they know never to reach around or underneath the frame while it’s moving.

  • Resistance When Closing Without a Mattress

The gas pistons will be very stiff when you try to close the lift frame without a mattress on it. If you try to force the platform down without the weight of a mattress to help, it could spring back up suddenly. When testing the mechanism before adding the mattress, always press down slowly and steadily from the center of the platform.

Safety Tip: Don’t try to be a hero and strain your body! If you’re finding the gas pistons offer too much resistance, it’s time to call for backup. Grab a partner to help you lower the lift frame. It can be tempting to go it alone, but knowing when to ask for help is key

/

Overall, this bed frame is very safe. It doesn’t have any sharp corners, the gas piston holds securely, and there’s a pull strap to keep your hands clear of any pinch zones. We did notice a couple of minor issues, like the pinch points on the moving hinge and some resistance when lifting the frame without a mattress on it.

⭐️ Final Score: 45 / 50 (90%)

In conclusion, the TV stand is a sturdy, reliable piece of furniture. The one thing you can’t deny is that it has been rated favorably by an overwhelming majority of reviewers.

On top of being solid and aesthetically pleasing, it’s also quite affordable! This bed is a great purchase for the price, and you can’t go wrong with it.

Final Recommendation

All in all, the Allewie Lift-Up Hydraulic Storage Platform Bed is a beautiful and functional piece of furniture that’s hard not to be impressed by.

Its ultra-slim, modern wingback headboard, gas-powered hydraulic lift storage, and no-box-spring design make it a standout choice, especially for the price.

With two headboard styles available in eight colors, it offers a great blend of design and practicality.

But don’t just take our word for it—the overwhelmingly positive customer feedback, with a 4.5 out of 5-star rating and hundreds of glowing reviews, shows this bed really delivers.

There’s a lot to love about this bed frame. Seriously, the hydraulic lift storage is a total game-changer, especially if you’re working with a smaller space.

The tall wingback headboard also gives the whole room a more curated, intentional vibe. And for under $250 for a queen and under $400 for a king? It’s an incredible deal.

Where It Can Improve

  • Assembly: You’ll probably want a friend to help you with the 16-step assembly process. It would also be helpful if the instructions for installing the hydraulic lift frame were a bit clearer, especially for those of us who haven’t assembled one before.

  • Storage Height: While the 10.8-inch storage height is great for everyday items, you might find it tricky to fit in bulkier things. It would be helpful if the product page gave clearer examples of what does and doesn’t fit to avoid any surprises.

  • Portability: Like most beds this big, it’s not something you’ll want to move around a lot. You’ll need to take it apart a bit to move it, so keep that in mind if you think you might be changing homes anytime soon.
